Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is so ubiquitous on cable news these days that Joe Biden’s presidential campaign has asked networks to stop booking him because he will “willingly lie” to protect President Trump, but MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski wants him off TV for another reason.
“Is there someone around him taking care of him?” the “Morning Joe” co-host asked Tuesday. “Someone needs to take care of him. It’s abusive.”
Giuliani, 75, has been subpoenaed by the House in its impeachment inquiry into Trump. On Tuesday morning, “Morning Joe” played clips of him discussing the matter on Fox News.
“I actually feel sorry for the guy when I see him in the state he was in last night, when I see him shuffling around, confused,” said co-host Joe Scarborough. “I am just shocked and I know Republicans I’ve spoken with on the hill are shocked Donald Trump is letting this guy go out as a free agent, rambling around with apparently no game plan and no focus.”
Co-host Willie Geist agreed, asking, “I wonder who’s directing this operation? … Who said, ‘Let’s get Rudy on TV again?’ Is it to throw smoke screens up? Because every time he goes on TV, there’s another lie or another problem for Trump.”
Scarborough lamented what he sees as Giuliani’s “decreased capacities” from when he was “America’s mayor,” calling it “sad” and “pathetic” to see what the lawyer has become: “Yes, it ruins his legacy, but more than that, I’m wondering who’s around Rudy Giuliani allowing him to continue to go out at night and embarrass himself on TV?”
A request for comment from Giuliani was not immediately returned.
