MovieTickets.com Begins Selling Regal Entertainment Group Tickets

Deal with the nation’s largest theater chain gives online broker an additional 7,300 screens

MovieTickets.com and the Regal Entertainment Group have partnered, the two companies announced on Wednesday.

MovieTickets.com has already begun selling tickets online to the nation’s largest theater chain. The 572 Regal Cinemas theaters, which include Regal Cinemas, Edwards Theatres and United Artists Theaters, mean an additional 7,356 screens for the online ticket broker.

With the addition of these theaters, MovieTickets.com will be providing advance movie ticketing to more than 28,000 screens worldwide, becoming the largest online advance movie ticketing platform globally. Its chief rival Fandango is larger in the United States, with roughly 25,000 screens.

“The addition of over 7,300 screens significantly boosts our footprint in the domestic marketplace and magnifies the opportunities for us on a much broader scale,” said Joel Cohen, chief executive at MovieTickets.com.

Sales of the two services represent 15-20 percent of the 1.3 billion movie tickets sold annually. The addition of Regal represents one of several non-exclusive exhibition deals for the two companies, both of which now offer tickets at most of the major domestic theater chains. Several of those chains offer their own online tickets as well.
