Paramount has released a new poster for their divisive film “mother!” and even fans of the film aren’t happy with the “atrocious” and “horrendous” poster.

“How about don’t use the abused face of a woman to advertise your movie? This is gross,” one Twitter user wrote. Another added, “The new ‘mother!’ poster looks like those ads for domestic abuse charities, so maybe they should, indeed, not!”

“‘mother!’ is my favorite film of 2017, by far, no contest,” wrote another. “That being said this poster is atrocious. ”

However, some were supportive of the film’s new poster.

“I love how Aronofsky and Paramount are embracing the divisiveness of mother!. Presenting the polar opposite reactions on the new poster,” said one fan.

It seems that Aronofsky first debuted the poster on his Reddit AMA on Friday. A representative for Aronofsky has not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.

“mother!” was released on Sept. 15 and the film has been polarizing among critics and fans alike. The Darren Aronofsky-directed movie has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 67 percent. The Atlantic’s Christopher Orr may have said it best: “‘mother!’ is a film certain to be revered by some and reviled by others.”

“mother!” stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris and revolves around a couple whose tranquil existence is disturbed when unexpected visitors arrive. That’s the easy way to explain the film — you’ll have to go see it to find out what became contentious among moviegoers since its release.

Paramount has not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment, although last week, Paramount’s President of Worldwide Distribution and Marketing Megan Colligan said her team, led by studio boss Jim Gianopulos, is proud of the bold work.

The film received an F CinemaScore from moviegoers this past opening weekend.
