EXCLUSIVE

Three young actors are in the running for the lead role in Screen Gems' movie "The Mortal Instruments."

You'll be hearing a lot about the film: Lily Collins, who made a name for herself in "The Blind Side" and is playing Snow White in Relativity Media's "Snow White" movie, plays Clary Fray, the lead.

On Friday, Jamie Campbell Bower (right), Ed Speleers and newcomer Leebo Freeman tested opposite Collins on the Sony Pictures lot.

Collins was seen leaving the Robert Young Building with

Freeman (below, left) after the test.

The movie is based on Cassandra Clare's six-novel young adult series about a girl whose mother is attacked by a mysterious creature and taken from her home in New York. When the girl, Clary Fray, tries to get her back, she learns unnerving truths about her own bloodline.

The actors are up for the role of Jace, a "shadow hunter."

Bower brings franchise credentials: He played Caius in "New Moon" and in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" Parts 1 and 2. He also played Gellert Grindelwald in "Harry Potter

and the Deathly Hallows," Parts 1 and 2.

Speleers (right) played Eragon in the 2006 "Eragon."

Freeman is a newcomer.

Screen Gems is looking at "The Mortal Instruments" as a potential franchise. The role of Jace is a meaty one and a potential starmaker.

Scott Charles Stewart is directing. Jessica Postigo wrote the screenplay based on Clare's novels. Robert Kulzer is producing for Constantin Film; Michael Lynne and Robert Shaye are producing for Unique Features.
