“American Idol” is going to look a lot more like “Survivor” this season.
A new set of challenges – because these contestants aren’t challenged enough to just stay on key – will enter the contest as Season 10 gears up, from who can make the best music video to self-promotion, TVGuide.com reported Thursday.
Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told the website that finalists will compete to see who works best with a band or a group of dancers, for instance.
The show has also chopped its finalist field from 24 down to 12 – now they’ll go straight to the top dozen after auditions.
"I didn't think [the top 24] were very good, I was bored with them by the time they got there," Lythgoe told TVGuide.com.
