It’ll be a long time before we get to see them, but on Friday Marvel gave fans a little something to tide them over while they wait: The first (very, very short) look at the upcoming Disney+ shows “Moon Knight,” “She-Hulk” and “Ms. Marvel.”
The clip played during Disney’s “Disney+ Day” event
It included: A brief glimpse of Tatiana Maslany as “She-Hulk” main character Jennifer Walters — that’s the woman you see from behind with green skin. Also, we saw Walters’ cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), appearing once again in his Smart Hulk form from “Avengers: Endgame.”
Meanwhile the “Ms. Marvel” showed Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) in what appeared to be a very cobbled-together remake of the uniform Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) wears in “Captain Marvel” and “Endgame” (it’s also worth nothing that Vellani’s Khan will also appear 2023’s “Captain Marvel” sequel “The Marvels”) And finally, Oscar Isaac brought a weird English accent in “Moon Knight.”
And there was also a brief look at Samuel L. Jackson in the limited series “Secret Invasion.” Jackson returns as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos — characters who first met in “Captain Marvel.” The crossover comic event series showcases a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.
While Marvel hasn’t set any specific release dates, these shows are (for now) due sometime in 2022.
Per the official logline, “Moon Knight” will be “a new globetrotting action-adventure series featuring a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. The multiple identities who live inside him find themselves thrust into a deadly war of the gods against the backdrop of modern and ancient Egypt.” The show will be directed by Mohamed Diab and co-stars Ethan Hawke.
Meanwhile, “She-Hulk” stars Maslany as the Marvel Universe attorney whose specialty is legal issues affecting superpowered people and, like her cousin Bruce, can also grow big and green. Alongside Maslany and Ruffalo, the comedy series will see the return of Tim Roth as Abomination from 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk.” It’s directed by Kat Coiro, who also serves as executive producer, and Anu Valia with Jessica Gao along as head writer.
Starring Iman Vellani, “Ms. Marvel” tells the story of 16-year-old Pakistani American Kamala Khan an aspiring artist, gamer and fan-fiction writer from Jersey City who admires earth’s heroes, especially Captain Marvel. Per the show’s login, “Kamala has always struggled to find her place in the world—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to.” It’s written by Bisha K. Ali and directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
