"Man of Steel" dominated at the international box office this weekend, adding $89 million from 52 foreign markets to raise its global total to nearly $400 million in 11 days of release.
The first Superman sequel in seven years has taken $210 million domestically and $188 million from abroad. Imax has played a big part of that, delivering $35 million from about 600 screens worldwide.

Warner Bros.’ “Man of Steel” made its debut in China and brought in around $26 million, with $3.2 million of that coming from Imax screens. The opening is comparable to the amount that “Star Trek Into Darkness” debuted with three weeks ago, and Paramount’s sci-fi thriller has gone on to make nearly $53 million in that country.
Disney’s “Monsters University” and Paramount’s “World War Z” were second and third. Disney and Pixar’s 3D prequel took in $54.5 million from 35 markets in its foreign debut, while Brad Pitts zombie thriller took in $45.8 million from 25 territories in its first outings abroad.

The “World War Z” rollout included debuts in three major markets. Korea led the way with $10.3 million, followed by the U.K. with $7.1 million and Australia at $5.5 million. Paramount said the first-week openings represented about 30 percent of the film eventual foreign rollout.
In its third weekend of release, Sony's Will and Jaden Smith sci-fi adventure "After Earth grossed an estimated $13.4 million from 73 markets. That upped its international total to $114 million, and $171 million worldwide.
It debuted at No. 1 in Japan with $2.5 million, five percent ahead of "The Karate Kid" and nearly double the opening of "The Last Airbender."
