French Instagram model Rebecca Burger has died at age 33 after a whipped cream canister exploded, striking her in the chest, NBC reports.
In a message about her death posted to Burger’s Instagram account, the model’s family sent a warning that the type of canister that killed her is dangerous and “still in circulation.”
“Here’s an example of the whip cream canister that exploded and struck Rebecca’s chest, resulting in her death. Let us be precise: the siphon that cause[d] her death was sealed. Do not use this type of device in your home! Tens of thousands of these defective appliances are still in circulation,” the family said. (See the canister photo they posted below.)
A second post informed Burger’s followers that the model died June 18, “in an accident in the home.”
Citing the French newspaper 20 Minutes, NBC said that Burger went into cardiac arrest after her chest was struck and that responders revived her heart, but she died the following day after being transported to the hospital.
The manufacturer of the particular canister Burger used, Ard’time, said that the product was pulled following a 2013 accident, but added, “Unfortunately, there are still lots of siphons of all brands that remain potentially dangerous as time passes.”
