After an over 100-day theatrical window, “Moana 2” is finally coming to Disney+. The sequel’s streaming release date has been set for March 12, just in time for spring break to hit so kids can watch the Disney sequel over and over and over (and over and over) again.
The sequel, which began life as a TV series before Disney CEO Bob Iger made the call to rework the episodes into a feature-length film, hit theaters back in November and grossed over $1 billion worldwide. This despite tepid reviews for the film, which failed to secure a Best Animated Feature Oscar nomination. The first film, released in 2017, won the award.
The first “Moana” is one of the most-watched titles in the history of streaming, so the Disney+ release date for “Moana 2” was hotly anticipated.
The follow-up sees Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson reprising their roles as Moana and Maui in a story that involves assembling a crew to find a mysterious island.
