Mission Impossible? Ed Helms Comedy ‘Vacation’ Moves Up to Take on Tom Cruise

Warners will release New Line’s franchise reboot on July 31, the same day Paramount drops “Rogue Nation”

Warner Bros. has moved New Line’s comedy “Vacation” from Oct. 9 to July 31, where the franchise reboot will take on Tom Cruise‘s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” TheWrap has learned.Ed Helms stars in “Vacation” alongside Christina Applegate, Chris Hemsworth, Charlie Day, Leslie Mann and original “Vacation” stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo.

An insider told TheWrap that studio executives felt strongly that “Vacation” played like a bigger summer comedy, with strong test scores serving as proof of that confidence.

“The Office” alum Helms takes on the role of Rusty Griswold, who hits the road with his own family, including his wife, played by Applegate. Mann co-stars as Rusty’s sister, while Hemsworth plays her anchorman husband.

“Vacation” and “Mission: Impossible” open against Jake Gyllenhaal‘s boxing drama “Southpaw” and Blumhouse’s “The Gift.”The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of “Vacation’s” new release date.
