Miss America Winner Didn’t Understand Tom Brady Question Despite Claiming ‘He Definitely Cheated’ (Video)

“I didn’t know what he asked me,” Betty Cantrell admits after being crowned on Sunday

If you were confused by Miss America winner Betty Cantrell’s response to whether or not she thinks Tom Brady cheated last season, it’s probably because she was confused by the question.

The contestant, who was competing as Miss Georgia, admitted after being crowned that she didn’t even understand the question judge Brett Eldredge asked her about the Deflategate scandal that rocked the NFL ahead of the Super Bowl last season.

“I thought I blew my on-stage question,” Cantrell said in an interview. “I didn’t know what he asked me!”

“Did he cheat? That’s a really good question. I’m not sure,” she said on stage. “I think I’d have to be there to see the ball, feel it and make sure it was deflated or undeflated. But if there was question there, then yes, I think he cheated. If there was any question to be had, I think he definitely cheated and he should’ve been suspended for that. That’s not fair.”

Cantrell was crowned by last year’s winner, Kira Kazantsev, during ABC’s live broadcast of the 2016 Miss America competition at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.

During the talent portion of the competition, Cantrell impressed the judges with her performance of an aria from the opera “Madame Butterfly.”

Watch the video below to see Cantrell being “so thankful” for winning the crown without comprehending a simple question and watch her initial response to the inquiry above.
