‘Mindhunter’ Season 2 Teaser Flashes a Glimpse at Charles Manson (Video)

Series returns in August

The teaser for “Mindhunter” Season 2 is here, and it’s peppered with ominous imagery of Rorschach tests, a shocking discovery, and a glimpse at Charles Manson.

A brief moment in the teaser for the Netflix series, which you can watch above, shows Manson (Damon Herriman) looking down at something (or someone) menacingly. Netflix previously revealed that Manson would play a role in the new season earlier this month.

The teaser also shows FBI agents Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) and Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) interviewing serial killer Edmund Kemper (Cameron Britton) for information about another killer they’re trying to catch.

“Have you got somebody, Holden?” Kemper asks. “Somebody you can’t catch?”

Executive produced and directed by David Fincher, Season 2 will focus on the Atlanta child murders. The series covers the early days of the FBI’s criminal psychology and criminal profiling division, delving into the minds of murderers to see what makes them tick.

The new installment will look at the moment when conversations about serial killers — like Manson as well as the Son of Sam killer — entered the public consciousnesses. Like in season one, FBI agents will continue visiting prisons and interviewing serial killers to find out more about why they do what they do, which is presumably the context in which where Manson and Son of Sam will appear.

The Atlanta Child Murders were a series of killings between 1979 and 1981 that targeted African-American children, teenagers and adults. Wayne Williams, who is currently serving a life sentence of the deaths of two Atlanta men in 1981, will play a central role in the season. Police believe he’s responsible for 23 of those murders. He maintains his innocence.

“Mindhunter” Season 2 premieres August 16 on Netflix.
