Miley’s ‘Last Song’ Tops DVD Sales Chart

“Date Night” holds on to the top spot on the rental end, while “Dexter Season 4” makes a killing

Tween fans showed their support for Miley Cyrus last week by driving her new release “The Last Song” to the top of the DVD sales chart. Hopefully that bit of good news can help  Cyrus get over her breakup  with "Song" co-star Liam Hemsworth.

On the rental end, “Song,” which was billed as Cyrus’ first adult role, was unable to topple “Date Night” from first place.

The Steve Carell and Tina Fey comedy showed legs in its second week of release. It was also the third best selling disc, according to Rentrak.

In advance of “Dexter”s’ season five premiere on Sept. 26, the DVD release of the Showtime series’ acclaimed season four made a killing. The serial killer drama was the second best-selling disc last week.

Audiences failed to cuddle up to the week’s other big release, the family film “Furry Vengeance.” The Brendan Fraser comedy, which enjoys the distinction of being one of the worst reviewed films this year, captured the fourth and sixth slots on the sales and rental charts respectively.

Next week brings the debut of the final season of “Lost” and “The Back-up Plan,” a box office dud that stars Jennifer Lopez.
