In the wake of a controversial Video Music Awards performance, Miley Cyrus‘s documentary “Miley: The Movement” is premiering on MTV on Wednesday at 10/9c.
In a new preview, Miley discusses her parents’ support for her reinvented image. As the daughter of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus and momager Tish Cyrus, Miley was essentially groomed for stardom.
“My mom is my homie,” she says. “If I win, she wins. Not because she’s my manager, but because she’s my mom.”

In her defense, Tish Cyrus addresses critics of her daughter’s raunchy lifestyle.
“Anyone that’s ever said, ‘Where is her mother?’ Right beside her,” says Tish. “Through good, through bad, through arguments, through crying, through I don’t care what — right there.”
Cyrus, not yet of legal drinking age but already Hollywood’s rising party girl, is outspoken about her transformation from Disney’s princess Hannah Montana to the girl who twerked on Robin Thicke. She is also no stranger to the tabloid spotlight and has been a part of publicity stunts ranging from a public bong hit to a high-profile engagement to the now-infamous VMA performance.

“[Everyone is] overthinking it. You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it,” says Miley of her antics.
“Miley: The Movement” promises to show more of the pop star’s behind-the-scenes life, up to and including the VMA performance with Robin Thicke in August.
