The Parents Television Council is hot and bothered over Miley Cyrus' performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.
And the watchdog group isn't too crazy about Lady Gaga's shell bikini, either.
The PTC carried out its own cherished annual tradition on Monday, complaining about the VMAs. It accused the network of peddling adults-only material to children.
"MTV has once again succeeded in marketing sexually charged messages to young children using former child stars and condom commercials — while falsely rating this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable," PTC director of public policy Dan Isett said in a statement. "This much is absolutely clear: MTV marketed adults-only material to children while falsely manipulating the content rating to make parents think the content was safe for their children."

The PTC singled out Cyrus' twerk-tastic, ribald performance with Robin Thicke — during which the former Disney Channel princess made suggestive gestures with an oversized foam finger — and Gaga's show-opening performance of her single "Applause."
"How is it appropriate for children to watch Lady Gaga strip down to a bikini in the opening act?" the PTC fumed.

Also on the group's tsk-tsk list: A commercial for a condom company that aired during the ceremony, and an ad for an R-rated movie.
Isett went so far as to hold up this year's VMAs as an example of why cable should move to an a la carte package structure.
"We urge Congress to pass the Television Consumer Freedom Act which will give parents and consumers a real solution for future MTV VMA programs — the ability to choose and pay for cable networks that they want vs. having to pay for networks they don’t want," Isett said. "After MTV’s display last night, it's time to give control back to consumers."
The PTC wasn't the only one displeased with Cyrus' performance; Mika Brzezinski, of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," called the performance "disturbing" on Monday.
"I thought that was really really disturbing," Brzezinski said. "That young lady, who is 20, is obviously deeply troubled, deeply disturbed, clearly has confidence issues, probably has an eating disorder. And I don't think anybody should've put her up on stage, that was disgusting and embarrassing."
