Miley Cyrus ‘Unplugged’ Coming to MTV (Video)

The singer nabs her own episode of the cable channel’s intimate Grammy and Emmy-winning concert series

Miley Cyrus is going “unplugged” for MTV.

The cable channel  and Cyrus made the announcement Monday evening via a promo during the newest episode of its popular supernatural drama, “Teen Wolf.”

Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged” will air Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 9/8c. Cyrus will be joined by special guests as she performs intimate new versions of her hit songs, many of which will come from her newest album, “Bangerz.”

“The ‘Unplugged’ stage has been home to some of the most iconic live performances of all time,” said MTV’s executive vice president of music and talent programming strategy, Amy Doyle, in a statement.

She continued, “Miley’s vision for the performance is like nothing we’ve ever seen. I can say that this will easily be one of the most memorable Unplugged performances to date.”

With this announcement, Cyrus joins a long list of celebrated artists who have appeared on MTV’s Grammy and Emmy-winning “Unplugged” series, including Nirvana, Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Florence and the Machine and Alicia Keys, among many others.

Jac Benson II, Joanna Bomberg, Doyle and Garrett English serve as executive producers for “Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged.” Alex Coletti will direct. “Unplugged” was created by Robert Small and Jim Burns.

The “Unplugged” performance is just the latest extension of MTV’s ongoing partnership with Cyrus. Her controversial performance on last year’s MTV Video Music Awards in August brought “twerking” to the masses. MTV would later air the one-hour documentary, “Miley: The Movement” in October, which went behind-the-scenes of her preparation for the MTV Video Music Awards performance.

In November, MTV dedicated eight hours of airtime to celebrate Cyrus’ 21st birthday. And in December, MTV named Cyrus its Best Artist of 2013.

On Feb. 14, Cyrus begins a 38-city “Bangerz” tour, which begins in Vancouver, BC and will visit cities throughout the United States and Canada.
