Michelle Trachtenberg, the former child star known for her roles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Gossip Girl,” has died, TheWrap has learned. She was 39.
“It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away,” her publicist told TheWrap on Wednesday. “The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time.”
The actress’ death is not being investigated as suspicious, according to police sources with the New York Post, who was first to report the news. Per ABC News, Trachtenberg’s mother found her unresponsive at her New York City apartment early Wednesday morning.
Trachtenberg’s other notable works included “Ice Princess,” “EuroTrip,” “Harriet the Spy,” “The Adventures of Pete & Pete,” “17 Again,” “Mercy,” “Mysterious Skin,” “Black Christmas” and “Inspector Gadget,” just to name a few.
Born Oct. 11, 1985, in NYC, the actress earned three Young Artist Awards early in her career and was even nominated for a Daytime Emmy. Her last major movie was “The Scribbler” in 2014 and she filmed two episodes of Max’s “Gossip Girl” reboot in 2022.
Outside of fame, Trachtenberg’s social media posts concerned some fans prior to her death, though she assured followers she was safe and healthy as recently as January 2024.
She is survived by her mother and her boyfriend Jay Cohen.
