Michelle Trachtenberg’s Former Co-Stars Heartbroken Over Her Death: ‘I Wish I Could Have Helped’

Rosie O’Donnell, Ed Westwick, SAG-AFTRA and others react to the 39-year-old’s passing

Several of Michelle Trachtenberg’s co-stars have paid homage to the late actress on social media since her untimely passing at age 39 on Wednesday.

The child star appeared on cult-following franchises like “Gossip Girl” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” as well as nostalgic films like “Ice Princess” and “Harriet the Spy.”

Her “Gossip Girl” co-star Ed Westwick posted to his Instagram story, sending prayers to the actress’s family, and Trachtenberg’s “Harriet the Spy” co-star Rosie O’Donnell acknowledged that the 39-year-old actress had been struggling for some time, adding that she wished she could have helped.

Trachtenberg’s mother found her dead in her New York City apartment Wednesday morning. She is survived by her mother and her boyfriend Jay Cohen.

“Heartbreaking,” O’Donnell said in a statement to US Weekly. “I loved her very much. She struggled the last few years. I wish I could have helped.”

The two worked together on the 1996 film “Harriet the Spy” in which Trachtenberg played the titular character.

The “Gossip Girl” star remembered Trachtenberg on his Instagram story Wednesday.

“So sad to hear of the passing of @MichelleTrachtenberg sending prayers,” Westwick said in an Instagram story.

Trachtenberg played fan-favorite mean girl Georgina Sparks on the CW series alongside Westwick’s Chuck Bass.

David Boreanaz

Boreanaz, who played Angel on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and its subsequent spinoff “Angel,” wrote in an Instagram story, “So very sad … horrible news. R.I.P. and prayers to her and her family.” The two appeared on the vampire series for three seasons together.

SAG-AFTRA

Kim Cattrall

Cattrall and Trachtenberg starred in “Ice Princess” together. Katie Couric commented on the post with a heartbroken emoji.

Kenan Thompson

The “SNL” star, who got his start on Nickelodeon, wrote in an Instagram post: “Our first Nick movie star has departed us! She was my friend and now she rests!! Check on your people!!!” Thompson shared a video of a young Trachtenberg introducing a boxing bit on the kids’ programming channel.

James Marsters

Marsters, who starred in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” wrote that the actress “died much too young, and leaves behind scores of people who knew and loved her.”

Melissa Gilbert

“My heart aches for your family and all those who loved you so,” her 1996 “A Holiday for Love” co-star said of the late actress in an Instagram post.

Alyson Hannigan

The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” actress posted a carousel of images to remember her late co-star. “She brought a loving energy to the set of Buffy,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Shawn Ashmore

Trachtenberg’s ex-boyfriend, whom she dated between 2004 and 2006, wrote a tribute to the late actress on Instagram.

“She was an incredible person and I will always remember the years we spent together fondly,” he wrote. “She was loving, quirky and would never pass up a ‘Law and Order SVU’ marathon.”

Melissa Joan Hart

The “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” star shared a scene from a 1992 episode of “Clarissa Explains It All” where she babysat a young Trachtenberg. “Michelle was nothing like her character and even this young, we got along,” she added.

Emma Caulfield

“I’m so sorry your bright light died so young. Our Buffy family lost a little sister today,” Caulfield wrote in an Instagram story. “Rest in peace lovely Mish Mish. You were loved.”
