Michelle Obama to Guest on ‘iCarly’ for Military Families Campaign

First lady will promote her Joining Forces initiative on hit Nickelodeon series

First Lady Michelle Obama will appear on Nickelodeon's hit series "iCarly," in an episode that will probably air in January, the Associated Press reports.

Obama will do a cameo on the show, which stars Miranda Cosgrove as spunky teen webcaster Carly Shay, to promote her Joining Forces initiative, which aims to spread awareness and support for military families. (On the series, Shay's father is a colonel in the military who serves overseas.)

The episode, which was written by "iCarly" creator and executive producer Dan Schneider, finds Obama dropping in on Carly and her pals after they set up a web chat to allow Carly to speak to her father on his birthday.

"The first lady discovers it and comes to have a chat with them in the most positive way possible,” Nickelodeon president Cyma Zarghami told the AP. "When [Obama] approached us, after he was done jumping for joy, Dan sat down and came up with a very, very clever idea.”

The first lady might have been inspired to make her case for military families on "iCarly" by her daughters, Sasha and Malia — the series is a favorite of theirs, Zarghami tells the AP. The series, which was recently greenlit for a fifth season, has been a top performer for Nickelodeon, with new episodes averaging 6.4 million total viewers this year.
