Michelle Collins has joined “The View” as a co-host, TheWrap has learned.
The comedian has been a regular guest host on the show, and was in discussions to become a full-time contributor. As previously reported, “The View” plans to rotate a small stable of contributors next season, its 19th. Molly Sims is also expected to be a member of that swiveling group.
Wednesday’s show opened with an emotional farewell to departing permanent panelist Rosie Perez. After speaking glowingly about moderator Whoopi Goldberg and fellow panelist Nicolle Wallace, the “Fish in the Dark” actress welcomed recently announced co-host Raven-Symone and Collins, today’s guest.
“Michelle, welcome. Raven, welcome,” was all Perez said, coupled with two hugs.
That unofficial and unspecified welcome was part of an announcement that never happened. Likely due to Perez’s long and emotional farewell — a few weeks in advance to when she’ll actually leave — the Collins announcement was delayed. An announcement is expected tomorrow or next week.
ABC had no comment on the Collins casting.
Wallace’s future still hangs in the balance for next season; an insider told TheWrap that those discussions are still in the infancy stages. Goldberg and Raven-Symone are set to return, now joined by Collins.
