Fans of “Breaking Bad” who are hotly anticipating the arrival of its spinoff, “Better Call Saul,” got their first big casting news this week. Veteran comedic actor Michael McKean has been cast in Vince Gilligan‘s upcoming prequel.

McKean will be playing a new character known only as Dr. Thurber. McKean will join Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks, who played Mike Ehrmantraut in “Breaking Bad,” as the three confirmed cast members thus far.

McKean has worked with Odenkirk once before, guest starring in an episode of “Mr. Show.” He also has appeared in all of Christopher Guest‘s movies, including “This Is Spinal Tap” as David St. Hubbins.

“Better Call Saul” focuses on sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman, who covered Walter White’s tracks throughout “Breaking Bad.” The prequel gets its name Goodman’s ad slogan on the show.
