The Weinstein Company released the first trailer for Michael Keaton‘s “The Founder” on Thursday.
“The Founder” is a drama that tells the true story of how Ray Kroc (Keaton), a salesman from Illinois, met Mac (John Carroll Lynch) and Dick McDonald (Nick Offerman), who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California.
Kroc was impressed by the brothers’ speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. He maneuvered himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a billion dollar empire.
The film also stars Linda Cardellini, Laura Dern, and B.J. Novak. John Lee Hancock is directing, based on the screenplay by Robert D. Siegel. FilmNation Entertainment and The Combine are producing the film, with The Weinstein Company distributing it theatrically.
The Weinstein Company announced in March that they were moving up the film’s release to Aug. 5 as opposed to its original release date in November.
The film is expected to be an awards contender, particularly given the fact that Keaton has been on a major hot streak the past two years. The actor has appeared in back-to-back Academy Awards Best Picture winners, namely “Birdman” and “Spotlight.” He also won a Golden Globe for his work in “Birdman.”
