I guess you guys are ready for this … but your kids are gonna be completely baffled by it.
Michael J. Fox joined Coldplay onstage at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday to reenact a scene from Fox’s 1985 big-screen classic “Back to the Future.”
Taking a page from the time-travel comedy’s “Enchantment Under the Sea” scene, Chris Martin and company eased into the Penguins’ “Earth Angel” before Fox strapped on a guitar and joined them.
After the band wrapped up its take on the doo-wop tune, Fox tore into the opening lick of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode,” taking lead for the solo.
Fox’s string-bending workout didn’t quite reach the Van Halen-esque extrapolations that gave the original scene such comedic oomph, but he did accomplish the nearly impossible by making a Coldplay performance remotely interesting for a few minutes.
