MGM Promotes John Bryan to Top Domestic Television Slot

This TV Network creator takes lead duties in MGM’s Domestic Television division

John Bryan has been promoted from vice president of MGM's Domestic Television to president of Domestic Television Distribution, MGM Co-Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum announced on Friday.

Bryan, who created MGM's free premium channel This TV Network, will continue to work with This TV, in addition to launching sister channel ME TV. Bryan will also be tasked with expanding MGM's opportunities in first-run syndication.

In a joint statement, Birnbaum and Barber announced: “With John at the helm of our domestic television arm, we benefit from both his experience in the syndication market and his enthusiasm for the medium.  With his past successes, we are well-positioned to take MGM domestic TV to the next level."

Bryan came to MGM in 2006 after working at Buena Vista.

Bryan's promotion comes as part of a larger move by Barber and Birnbaum to place their imprint on MGM, following its emergence from bankruptcy last year. Before filing for Chapter 11, MGM's creditors approved a bankruptcy plan that included a takeover by Spyglass.

As part of that blueprint, Birnbaum and Barber assumed the position of co-CEOs for MGM.
