Starz has added Method Man to the cast for its upcoming “Power” spinoff starring Mary J. Blige, “Power Book II: Ghost.”
Method Man will play Davis MacLean, a sharp and highly motivated attorney. Here is the character description from Starz: “Brilliant, ethically challenged, and with a few secrets of his own Davis is drawn into our world on multiple axes, a world riddled with murder and drugs, where the only thing he’s really addicted to is winning.”
The news comes as the flagship “Power” is set to return for its last batch of five episodes in January. The spinoff series was first announced last summer during the Television Critics Association press tour.
According to “Power” creator Courtney A. Kemp, the follow-up will “continue the journey of some of ‘Power’s’ most controversial characters” in addition to introducing new characters, including the one played by Blige. “And no, this is not the Ghost in question, although we talked about it,” she added, referencing the character played by Omari Hardwick in the flagship series.
The spinoff falls under Kemp’s overall deal with Lionsgate to develop and produce content for the studio through her End of Episode banner — including multiple potential “Power” spinoffs — which she signed in 2018. Jackson also signed a four-year overall deal with Starz, which included a three-series commitment.
