Thrash metal legends Metallica unveiled their first new single in eight years on Thursday, as well as the release date for their long awaited tenth studio album. The new album, titled “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct,” will be released November 18.
The first track on the new album, “Hardwired,” had its world premiere on the Minneapolis hard rock radio station 93X, with a new music video premiering on the band’s YouTube channel. The band announced on Facebook that an instant download of the new song is included with album preorders made through their website. The album includes twelve new tracks over two discs, and the band will also offer a deluxe edition featuring a third disc containing the riffs that formed the basis of the new album.
“Hardwired…To Self-Destruct” will be the first new solo offering from Metallica in eight years, following 2008’s “Death Magnetic.” In the intervening years, the band has released “Lulu,” a polarizing collaboration with the late singer-songwriter Lou Reed, and the concert movie “Through The Never.” This year, Metallica performed a special concert at AT&T Park in San Francisco the night before Super Bowl 50 and served as the ambassadors for the annual Record Store Day. A new documentary following the band’s early years in the 1980s has also been released this week on Spotify.
