Summit Entertainment will release its Jodie Foster-directed Mel Gibson comedy "The Beaver" in a limited number of theaters on March 23 of next year, expanding it wide two weeks later on April 8.
The specific announcement — coming after word leaked several weeks ago that Summit had commited to a "spring" release — culminates months of speculating about the oft-delayed project, which has been thrown into a bit of turmoil thanks to its star's tumultuous personal life.
"The Beaver" stars Gibson as a depressed former toy executive, who finds his center by communicating through a hand puppet.
