Mel Gibson Opts to Be Booked on Night of ‘Beaver’ Premiere

Actor arrived at El Segundo Police Department as film made SXSW debut

Mel Gibson has an interesting sense of timing: The actor opted to be booked on a misdeameanor battery charge on the same night his new film, "The Beaver," premiered in Austin at SXSW.

The judge in the case, which involves Gibson's former girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, ordered him to be fingerprinted and have his mugshot taken at any police station in the court's jurisdiction. The actor opted for the El Segundo Police Department at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night, Lt. Ray Garcia told TheWrap.

Gibson pleaded no contest last week to a misdemeanor battery charge, and was placed on probation for the next 36 months. He must also do 16 hours of community service and attend counseling.

Garcia said the visit to the El Segundo station was brief and that everything went smoothly.

Everything went well at the premiere, too, with the film and its star receiving an enthusiastic reception.
