Do Megyn Kelly’s Ratings for Trump Interview Mean She’s Ready for Primetime? (Updated)

(Updated 2:20 p.m. ET: “Megyn Kelly Presents” ended up with 4.8 million viewers, per more-final Nielsen numbers.)

Megyn Kelly’s heavily promoted sitdown with Donald Trump didn’t move the needle for viewers aged 18-49 — the main demographic that broadcast TV advertisers covet — at least, not in the right direction.

The interview’s demo reach was down 3 percent from last week’s combination of the “New Girl” Season 5 penultimate episode and what is now technically the “Grandfathered” series finale, per Nielsen. However, the Kelly-Trump sit down did give the Fox time slot a 26 percent boost among adults 25-54. That older-shifted age group is the cable news demo, Kelly’s usual audience.

And in terms of total viewers, last night’s face-off more than doubled what happened a week prior.

Last night’s “Megyn Kelly Presents” ranked second on Twitter — according to Nielsen TV Twitter rankings — with 162,000 tweets. By that measure, the special ranked only behind NBC’s “The Voice,” but ahead of the NBA draft.

Read Tuesday’s full broadcast fast national ratings here. No matter how you slice it, last night was pretty well-dominated by CBS’ “NCIS” season finale, a sendoff for star Michael Weatherly.

Kelly-Trump was used as the lead-in to launch new Fox broadcast dating series “Coupled,” which put up poor figures.
