ESPN’s Stuart Scott, Battling Cancer, Returns to ‘SportsCenter’

Co-anchor returns to air a month after undergoing treatment

ESPN’s Stuart Scott, who is battling cancer, returned to “SportsCenter” on Monday night and Tuesday morning, co-anchoring the network’s coverage of the blockbuster NBA trade that sent Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony to the New York Knicks.

Scott, who joined ESPN in 2003 1993, appeared to be much thinner but in good spirits.

“Figured [first] night at work would be an hour SportsCenter, not 3 hours on set,” Scott tweeted. “But ALL GOOD.”

In January, ESPN announced that Scott would undergo chemotherapy after removing unspecified “cancerous tissue” and would “maintain as normal a work schedule as the treatments allow.”

Scott was treated for cancer in 2007 after doctors found malignant tissue following an emergency appendectomy. He returned to work at ESPN a month later.

“Like 3 years ago, I plan to beat this thing,” the 45-year-old said in January. “Can’t tell you how much I appreciate everyone’s well wishes and support.”

On Tuesday, Scott tweeted: “Back to work [tonight] after recent surgery. Gotta fight cancer again … I’ll lean on [you] guys … [You] lean on me a little … We’ll beat it.”
