(Warning: Spoilers ahead for the “Mayans M.C.” premiere episode)
“Mayans MC” doesn’t shy away from gore — but the new FX drama’s special effects department may have convinced star JD Pardo to eat fewer burgers.
In the premiere episode of the “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff, there’s a torture scene that involves someone’s arm getting chopped off (we won’t spoil who), and the star said that the sight was enough to make him contemplate giving up meat for good.
When asked if shooting the scene was difficult, Pardo said he was actually excited — at first.
“Surprisingly enough — this is going to sound odd because it’s a horrible scene — but when we’re doing the torture scene, you know I’m thinking this is going to be really cool and this is going to be fun, because it’s like you know, we’re using green screen and you know, it’s like you’re make-believing, right?” he told TheWrap.
“But when I saw his arm go off, and they brought in the prosthetic arm … makeup did such a good job that I was like, wow, this is what meat looks like. And I might go vegan.”
“I had never had a desire to go vegan, I mean — I’m half-Argentinian, half El-Salvadorian — I love meat,” Pardo told TheWrap in a recent interview. “But at that moment, I’m like, I think I want to go vegan.”
