Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie Risk Getting Soaking Wet in ‘Tonight Show’ Pop Quiz (Video)

NBC’s “Today” show hosts must answer questions right, or they’ll rise up and pop huge, water-filled balloons

Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie took on Jimmy Fallon‘s water balloon trivia challenge on Tuesday’s episode of “The Tonight Show.” The “Today” co-anchors wore fashionable dunce caps with very, very pointy tops. Hanging above them were two very large balloons filled with water.

Every wrong answer meant Fallon raised their chair closer to the puncture point. To move things along faster, if Lauer got a question right then Guthrie’s chair would be raised, and vice versa.

Questions ranged in difficulty, from remembering the names of the sisters in Disney’s “Frozen” to recalling the name of the bar where the cast hung out in the classic sitcom “Three’s Company.”

The NBC morning show co-hosts were evenly matched throughout most of the competition, with both chairs raised precariously close to the balloons filled with water. In the end, it came down to a question about “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”

But which co-host came out on top, and which one came out all wet? Watch the video above to find out.

Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer can be seen on NBC’s “Today” show, weekday mornings at 8 a.m. ET. “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
