‘Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’ Must Disappear in Season 2 Teaser (Video)

Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson says the team’s new mission is “to protect the innocent, to save lives, even when they don’t know it.”

The first promo for Season 2 of ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is light on new footage, but the story is all in the voice-over provided by Clark Gregg.

As fans of the Marvel cinematic universe know, S.H.I.E.L.D. was dismantled and destroyed from the inside in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Reverberations of that devastating blow were felt in the later episodes of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s” first season, but what did that mean for the future of the show, and Agent Coulson’s (Gregg) team?

Now, it would appear that they’ve gone underground, but are still determined to help those in need. Among the snippets of new footage are shots of Skye (Chloe Bennett) and Ward (Brett Dalton), both sporting more hair than we’re used to seeing: Skye’s on her head and Ward’s on his face.

“This is a make or break moment,” Coulson says in the teaser. “The enemy has the advantage, but we have to fight on for those we lost. So the sacrifices they made were not made in vain. And then, we’ll disappear. Become ghosts. That’s how we have to live now. In the shadows. To protect the innocent, to save lives, even when they don’t know it.”

As part of the new initiative of the team, ABC has hired a whole slew of guest stars for the upcoming sophomore season. The action will kick off on the season premiere with the debut of “Crusher” Creel, better known as the Absorbing Man, played by “Teen Wolf’s” Brian Patrick Wade.

He’ll be joined in the season by would-be Wonder Woman Adrianne Palicki as Bobbi Morse (Mockingbird), Nick Blood as a mercenary who helps the team, and Reed Diamond as HYDRA villain Daniel Whitehall. “Xena: Warrior Princess” herself, Lucy Lawless, has also signed for an unidentified role.

Season 2 of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” kicks off at 9/8c on Tuesday, Sept. 23 on ABC.
