Marvel Unleashes First Teaser for ‘Agent Carter’ Television Series (Video)

Trailer spotlights Hayley Atwell’s titular heroine for 1940s-set series that will replace “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” on ABC schedule for two months

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” may just be the most anticipated movie in the country, but it’s not coming out until May 2015. Until then, the only place to check out the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on ABC. And when “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” takes its mid-season break in January 2015, it’ll be all about “Agent Carter.”

The first teaser proudly touts that “sometimes the best man for the job is a woman.” Marvel took a little heat after DC beat them to the punch with a female-lead superhero film in announcing “Wonder Woman.” Marvel countered that by announcing “Captain Marvel” as part of their “Phase 3” reveal.

But “Agent Carter” makes a case as the first female-led project set in a superhero universe, even if she’s not a superhero per se. Hayley Atwell originated the character in the first “Captain America” film, with her adventures set in the 1940s world at war that led to the creation of the good Captain. Now, her story continues in the post-war era, including the return of Dominic Cooper‘s Howard Stark.

With the war over and Captain America on ice (until the Avengers thaw him out in the present era), Carter settles into office work, while maintaining a more exciting side gig with Stark. At least, that’s where things start with her.

As the teaser makes very clear, the excitement level in her life is about to rise considerably. Good thing she’s trained as an elite government agent.

The eight-part “Marvel’s Agent Carter” premieres in January 2015 on ABC and will air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
