Marvel Studios has hired Chris McCoy to rewrite “Guardians of the Galaxy,” its upcoming film about a team of superheroes, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
Studio chief Kevin Feige announced at this year’s Comic-Con that the film would come out in August of 2014 as part of phase two — the studio's post-“Avengers” strategy. Most of Marvel's upcoming releases are sequels — “Thor,” Captain America,” Iron Man” and so forth — but Feige also teased an Edgar-Wright helmed “Ant-Man” in San Diego.
Marvel has several characters to choose from the "Galax" comics, but this film will focus on Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Racoon. Those aren't household names like “Thor” and “Iron Man,” but popular figures nonetheless.
McCoy has no producer credits to his name, but has earned his way onto the Black List three times. He will take over the script from Nicole Perlman.
