The project will follow a quartet of friends from Boston as they try to overcome their working-class Boston environment while scrambling to make a living.
Wahlberg is executive producing the project via his Closest to the Hole Productions company. Wahlberg's "Entourage"/"Boardwalk Empire" cohort Stephen Levinson is also executive producing on the project, as is Bill Thompson Productions' Bill Thompson and 44 Blue Productions' Stephanie Drachkovitch. Jennifer Colbert ("Pimp My Ride," "The Girls Next Door") is also executive producing, and will be the series' showrunner.
Wahlberg and Levinson are also working on an HBO pilot about retired athletes living in Miami, with Johnson's "Pain & Gain" costar Dwayne Johnson attached to star.
Deadline first reported news of the series pickup.
