Mark Ruffalo and Stephen Merchant Play ‘Tonight Show’ ‘Musical Beers’ (Video)

A variation on musical chairs, contestants try to grab a beer instead of a chair when the music stops

A distinct advantage did not work out for one of the players in Jimmy Fallon‘s new “Tonight Show” game on Thursday night. The NBC host introduced “Musical Beers,” which is a variation on the classic game, musical chairs. He invited Mark Ruffalo and Stephen Merchant to play it, along with Higgins and Tariq.

With his longer wingspan, the 6-foot-7 Merchant seemed to have a distinct advantage as they started circling the round table. Beers were set in rings around the table, with one less beer in each ring closer to the middle until there was only one left for the winner.

And while it looked like Merchant would at least make a run for victory, he was actually the first one out, surprising everyone including himself. It was Fallon himself who snatched the beer right out of Merchant’s hand.

“I’m a little competitive,” he said. “Let’s just say I have a drinking problem.”

The game got a little crazy after that, with a surprising tie in the second round. Watch the video above to find out who emerged victorious.

“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
