"Never Let Me Go" director Mark Romanek recently sat down with WorstPreviews to discuss some of the projects he's working on, including a father-daughter comedy with Ben Stiller.
Written by the undeniably talented Steve Conrad ("The Pursuit of Happyness," "The Weather Man"), the film would star Stiller as a dad who decides to fight an unjust parking ticket in order to teach his daughter how the legal system can work. Unfortunately, his crusade lands him on death row.
Formerly titled "In Deep," the project is now called "A Parking Ticket," and Romanek describes it as a "very funny black comedy." Conrad is still working on the script, and Stiller's involvement is far from official.
Earlier this year, Romanek and Stiller were linked to "Voices," a dark, off-kilter dramedy about a man who takes advice from his talking pets on how to cover up his accidental killing of a co-worker.
Additionally, Romanek said he still hopes to move forward with his big screen adaptation of Philip Gourevitch's non-fiction book "A Cold Case." Romanek and Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth ("Forrest Gump") had been developing the true-life murder tale, with Tom Hanks set to star.
Apparently there was a life rights issue that sank the project, and Romanek is simply waiting for the 80-something-year-old killer to pass away so they can go ahead and make the movie.
Romanek also reveals in the interview that he has "secured a screenwriter and has two actors attached" to an unnamed project that has been in the works for 15 years.
