Mark Duplass was criticized for praising conservative media personality Ben Shapiro on Twitter on Wednesday. The screenwriter and actor ultimately deleted the tweet following backlash from liberals.
“Fellow liberal: If you are interested at all in ‘crossing the aisle’ you should consider following @BenShapiro.” Duplass said in the tweet. “I don’t agree with him on much but he’s a genuine person who once helped me for no other reason than to be nice. He doesn’t bend the truth. His intentions are good.”
Duplass may have had good intentions, but the liberals he addressed in the tweet took his call of “crossing the aisle” as a betrayal and bluntly told Duplass that conversing with Shapiro would not be tolerated.

If you mean he helped you become better at transphobia and mocking the LGBTQ community, then totally.

In response, Shapiro himself took a shot at the left following their public shaming of Duplass.
“Today’s Leftist lesson on Twitter: write a nice tweet about someone with whom you disagree politically, get labeled a racist sexist homophobe,” he said. “Good stuff, guys. Really showing that tolerant streak.”

It remains unclear what Duplass thinks of the ordeal. He did not offer an explanation for the tweet or why he deleted it and did not immediately respond to an inquiry from TheWrap.
