A “Magnum P.I.” sequel series from Eva Longoria and John Rogers (“Leverage”) has been given a script commitment by ABC.
The project will follow Magnum’s daughter, Lily “Tommy” Magnum, who returns to Hawaii to take up the mantle of her father’s PI business. She and her tribe of friends mix tropical beaches with the seedy underbelly of international crime and modern espionage, even as she tries to unravel the mystery of the blown spy operation that ended her career in Navy Intelligence.
Rogers will write the drama from Universal TV and serve as executive producer. Longoria will also executive produce with UnbeliEVAble’s Ben Spector and Kung Fu Monkey’s Jennifer Court.
The original “Magnum P.I.” series starring Tom Selleck was created by Glen A. Larson and Donald P. Bellisario in 1980, and ran for eight seasons on CBS.
The project follows a wave of reboots and adaptations this season, which includes “MacGyver,” “Training Day,” “Lethal Weapon,” “Frequency,” “24,” “The Exorcist” and “Taken.”
