“Madam Secretary” will end with its upcoming sixth season next year.
The announcement was made by CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl during the network’s upfront press briefing on Wednesday. The final season will consist of 10 episodes to “tie up the storyline,” Kahl said.
“We’re happy and excited to do that for Tea and the writers of the show and the audience,” he said. “I think it’s more to respect the audience. You work hard to get people to invest in the show … We’d like to be able to do this and to send the show off with a great deal of respect and appreciation.”
“Madam Secretary” has frequently aired on delays during the fall due to overrun from CBS’ NFL games on Sunday afternoons. The final season will remain in its Sunday, 10 p.m. time slot.
“Madam Secretary” starred Tea Leoni as Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord. Tim Daly, Sara Ramirez, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood and Evan Roe also star.
“Madam Secretary” is produced by CBS Television Studios, in association with Revelations Entertainment. Barbara Hall, Lori McCreary, David Grae, Eric Stoltz and Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman executive produce.
