Netflix has nabbed two new stand-up comedy specials from Louis CK. The first, titled “2017,” was filmed in Washington DC and will premiere on April 4.

“Louis has been one of the most innovative comedy voices in this new era of stand up. He has also been a thought leader in the business of comedy,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix. “We have marveled at his creativity and his ability to invent comedically  and commercially, and are thrilled that he is bringing his newest specials to Netflix.”

“Innovative” is right. Not only is CK lauded for his actual material and bare-bones approach to the stage, he’s been one of the most forward-thinking comedians of our time. CK recently dabbled in releasing stand-up specials directly to consumers via his website for $5 apiece.

As ground-breaking as CK has been, he’s also been extremely successful. CK has received over 30 Emmy nominations throughout his career, including wins for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for his work on “Louie,” and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for several standup comedy specials. He’s won two Grammys for comedy albums and has a pair of Golden Globe nominations on his resume.

Beyond his man-alone-with-a-mic work, CK will lend his voice to upcoming animated series “The Cops,” he created and co-starred in “Horace and Pete,” and can currently be heard as Max in movie “The Secret Life of Pets.”

Netflix has made a big push for original stand-up comedy specials lately, also locking down Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Dave Chappelle, and Sarah Silverman, among others.
