Just one day after premiering a somber trailer during the Super Bowl, Fox has released a new one-minute clip from next month’s “Logan” featuring Hugh Jackman’s calm-but-pissed-off Marvel hero coming to the aid of a friend.
In this case, Logan stands down some heavies trying evict a man named Munson (Eriq LaSalle) from his property.
They don’t think much of Munson’s hired “muscle” — Logan — even when he tells them he’s “just a guy telling you to get back in your nice truck and play Okie d-ckhead somewhere else.”
Before long, there are veiled threats — “You know the drill” gets repeated — and Logan is grabbing a rifle from the main heavy’s hands and busting it in half across his knee.
The new clip has the same serious tone as the Super Bowl trailer released yesterday, which showed an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart), as well as Logan battling with his desire to go into hiding and avoid conflict with his instincts to help young Laura Kinney, also known as X-23 (played by newcomer Dafne Keen).
In the near future, a weary Logan cares for Professor X in a hideout on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
Director James Mangold’s movie also stars Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook and Stephen Merchant.
“Logan” hits theaters on March 3.
