It turns out collecting and using keys was just the beginning of the story for Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), Tyler (Connor Jessup) and Kinsey Locke (Emilia Jones), as the second season of Netflix’s “Locke & Key” will see characters not just seeking out these already manufactured magical tools, but forging new ones themselves.
In the trailer for “Locke & Key” Season 2 — which Netflix released Wednesday and which you can view via the video above — Gabe (Griffin Gluck), who is really Dodge (Laysla De Oliveira), recruits Eden (Hallea Jones) to help him in his secret quest against the Locke kids. That leads to him creating a freaky looking skull key that cannot possibly be a good thing.
While he’s doing that, Tyler appears to be learning how to make keys too, something that could open the world to amazing possibilities for him and his siblings — or unlock more nightmares like Dodge.
The coming-of-age mystery series from Carlton Cuse (“Lost,” “Bates Motel”) and Meredith Averill (“The Haunting of Hill House”), which has already been renewed for Season 3, will debut its second season on Oct. 22.
“Locke & Key” stars Darby Stanchfield (Nina Locke), Connor Jessup (Tyler Locke), Emilia Jones (Kinsey Locke), Jackson Robert Scott (Bode Locke), Petrice Jones (Scot Cavendish), Bill Heck (Rendell Locke), Thomas Mitchell Barnett (Sam Lesser), Coby Bird (Rufus Whedon), Jesse Camacho (Doug Brazelle), Asha Bromfield (Zadie Wells), Griffin Gluck (Gabe), Hallea Jones (Eden), Aaron Ashmore (Duncan Locke), Liyuo Abere (Jamie Bennett) and Brendan Hines (Josh Bennett).
Here’s the official description for the show, which is adapted from the IDW Entertainment graphic novel series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez: “After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens — and will stop at nothing to steal them.”
“Locke & Key” is executive produced by Cuse, Averill, Aron Eli Coleite, Joe Hill, Chris Ryall with Lydia Antonini and Ted Adams for IDW, Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, David Alpert and Rick Jacobs for Circle of Confusion, Lindsey Springer and John Weber and Frank Siracusa for Take 5.
“Locke & Key” Season 2 launches Oct. 22 on Netflix.
