Lindsay Lohan Talks About Proving Herself, Elizabeth Taylor Role in ‘Today’ Interview

“I will not let anyone down,” troubled actress Lindsay Lohan says of upcoming turn as “Cleopatra” screen icon Elizabeth Taylor

Think that Lindsay Lohan has a long way to go before she works her way back into the public's good graces? You're not alone — so does she.

The "Machete" actress — who's grabbed more headlines for her erratic behavior and court appearances than she has for her film work lately — sits down for an interview with  the "Today's" Matt Lauer that will air on Thursday, March 1. NBC released excerpts Tuesday.

During the interview, Lohan — who will guest-host "Saturday Night Live" this weekend — admits that she has her work cut out for her when it comes to repairing her reputation.

"I think that that's gonna take — I think that takes time," Lohan tells Lauer. "And I think that it's actions. Because people can say things all they want, but I think I still need to go through the process of proving myself, you know, with 'SNL,' being on time, being, you know, keeping my … can't say the word but, stuff together."

Lohan is currently undergoing a court-mandated regimen of therapy and community service after violating her probation stemming from a DUI arrest.

Lohan, who earned a reputation as a nightclub-hopping party girl, also tells Lauer that she's done with the club scene, calling herself a "homebody."

"That's not my thing anymore," Lohan asserts. "I went out, actually, a few months ago with a friend. And I was so uncomfortable. Not because I felt tempted, just because it was just the same thing that it always was before. And it just wasn't fun for me. I've become more of a homebody. And I like that."

The 25-year-old actress — whose wild ways led to her losing the role of ill-fated porn star Linda Lovelace in the Matthew Wilder film "Inferno" — also discusses her upcoming portrayal of another woman of the screen, Elizabeth Taylor, in a Lifetime TV movie.

To hear Lohan tell it, she's determined not to repeat the mistakes of her past, no matter how recent that past may be.

"I've been doing tons of research. But I've always kind of researched her," Lohan enthuses. "She's always been a fascinating woman to me. So I'm really honored. And I will not let anyone down, especially myself."
