Lindsay Lohan was released from jail on Monday after serving less than two weeks of a 90-day sentence.
Lohan was released from the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California at 1:35 a.m. (4:35 a.m. ET). She was taken to UCLA Medical Center for rehab.
L.A. County Sheriff Dept. spokesman Steve Whitmore said Lohan "thanked everybody" as she left.
"This concludes her custody," Whitmore told reporters gathered outside the prison early Monday shortly after Lohan's release. "We can all go home now."
As part of the sentence handed down by Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel, the actress will now begin a 90-day drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. She must begin that program within 24 hours.
Lohan had been expected to serve between 13 and 15 days in jail because of overcrowding.
Lohan landed in jail after violating probation related to a pair of arrests in 2007 — one for driving under the influence, the other for cocaine possession. After a mini-drama of revolving door lawyers, Lohan surrendered to authorities on July 20.
Lohan’s rehab program is expected to treat her extensive prescription drug use, which was made public in a probation department report outlining her weekly random drug tests. While passing the test for illegal drugs, Lohan has, according to the report, been taking “Nexium, Zoloft, Trazadone, Adderall, and sometimes Dilaidid.”
Once out of rehab, Lohan will have to get to work on her once flourishing career, which the acclaimed actress’s tabloid antics have taken a toll on.
In the immediate future, that could be a tough road. The only thing she had solidly lined up post-incarceration was playing Linda Lovelace in the biopic “Inferno,” and now she might have to swallow losing that role, too. Her rehab stint conflicts with production starting in August and, according to one report, Sarah Scott — most recently seen on “Nip/Tuck” and “True Blood” — will take over the role of the troubled “Deep Throat” porn star.
What is certain is that Lohan will miss the Sept. 3 release of “Machete.” Director Robert Rodriguez told TheWrap during Comic-Con that Lohan is “great in the movie.”
Lohan is expected to be released from rehab in early November.
