Liam Neeson is exploring his softer side the Valentine’s Day by auditioning for the role of Cupid… and an interesting interpretation of the classic Sam Cooke song “Cupid.”
“It’s good… I think maybe you’re coming across a little intimidating,” the off-camera casting director tells Neeson in his audition tape.
“Um, if you don’t mind my saying, I think what I’m doing is right,” Neeson counters. “I mean, just listen to the classic Sam Cooke song: ‘Cupid, draw back your bow, let your arrow go, straight to my lover’s heart.’ That’s a kill shot, man. Penetrate the aorta. You’d bleed out in 10 seconds.”
Neeson also riffed on the classic “love is patient” passage from the Old Testament: “Love is patient… like a trained assassin.”
In fact, Neeson’s interpretation of Cupid is a lot like a trained assassin.
“He’s a trained, methodical marksman with deadly aim shooting arrows into random victims,” Neeson explains.
