"Back to the Future" and "Caroline in the City" star Lea Thompson has signed on to star in "My Mother's Future Husband," a television movie for UP Television.
The film, which also stars Matreya Fedor ("Cedar Cove,"pictured, below right), centers on widowed mother Rene Anderson (played by Thompson), who's devoted herself to running her bistro and whose entire social life consists of trying to be the BFF of her 15-year-old daughter, Headly (Fedor).

Though still grieving her father's death five years ago, Headly has begun to discover boys and falls for a handsome jock. Determined to free herself from her mother's constant presence, Headly concocts a variety of schemes to find her mother's "future husband," employing everything from interviews for "a Social Studies class" to setting up an online profile of her mom. The plan seems to come together with the introduction of widowed father Andrew ("Battlestar Galactica" star Sebastian Spence), until a misunderstanding threatens to ruin her scheme. Ultimately, mother and daughter realize that they have to deal with their past before opening their hearts to future romantic possibilities.
The cast also includes Gig Morton, Burkely Duffield and Everick Golding.
George Eschbarner, who worked with Thompson on 2008's "The Christmas Clause," is directing. "My Mother's Future Husband," which is currently in production in Vancouver, is slated for a 2014 premiere on UP. Julie Brazier ("My Name Is Sarah") wrote the script.
"Mother-daughter relationships are one of the greatest in the world," Barbara Fisher, UP's svp, original programming, said of the project. "This special film explores how this loving, funny, sometime aggravating, unbreakable bond provides the key to a mother and daughter both moving forward and discovering love in their lives again."
In addition to "My Mother's Future Husband," UP, which specializes in uplifting family entertainment, will air the movie "The Town That Came A-Courtin,'" starring Valerie Harper and Lauren Holly, next year.
