“Law and Order: SVU” has tapped Michael Chernuchin as its new showrunner heading into the venerable NBC procedural’s 19th season, TheWrap has learned.
Chernuchin was an executive producer on NBC’s “Chicago Justice,” which recently got the axe. He previously served as showrunner for the original “Law and Order.”
Rick Eid, who was the “SVU” showrunner for Season 18, exited the show to replace Matt Olmstead as the showrunner of “Chicago P.D.” The “Law and Order” and “Chicago” franchises were both created by Dick Wolf.
“SVU” celebrated its 400th episode in February and is the longest-running drama series on broadcast TV. Its current cast includes Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish and Peter Scanavino.
The series hails from Universal Television and counts Wolf, Hargitay, Julie Martin, Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski as executive producers.
