Larry Wilmore came out in defense of Trevor Noah Friday on CBS This Morning, saying once people get to know him, a lot of the hysteria surrounding the South African comedian will dissipate.
“Because people don’t know him, you have to try to paint a picture of him, so people are using whatever they had,” Willmore said. “But I think once he’s doing the show, I think some of those things will go away,” Wilmore said on “CBS This Morning.”
Wilmore also said Jon Stewart leaves big shoes to fill. On whether Noah would have been on the receiving end of such a firestorm over his previous jokes if he were white, Wilmore said:
“Let’s be clear, a young Jon Stewart would have had trouble following the present-day Jon Stewart.”
Wilmore also said he consumes lot of news, and he switched over the “CBS This Morning”—although he wouldn’t reveal what he watched before.
